 Great Beginner Puzzle Set September 4, 2010

My wife and I bought this puzzle set for our daughter around her 2nd birthday. All I can say is, whats not to like? First off, there are 4 different puzzles in the box, all with chunky pieces. The wooden box itself is fairly nice, and has a sliding lid and four compartments for the puzzles.
This is a great skill building set. In the few months that we had it, we went from having to seperate the pieces, pick out the appropriate ones for one of the puzzles, and help/coach our daughter to place each piece, to where we are 6 months later, where she reaches into the box and picks out the correct pieces for each of the four puzzles from a jumbled mass of all 4 sets mixed together, and places them unassisted. The challenge isn't really there for her anymore, and we are moving on to more difficult puzzles, but she still enjoys putting these together, its one of her touchstone toys that she returns to, pulls out, or wants to play with almost every day.
As a side benefit, my daughter loves it when we come across construction equipment out in the real world as well, which is a bonus to this particular set (or maybe the vehicle set) as versus some of the similar sets, in my view. Considering the extremely low cost of this item, you will get more than you money's worth out of this item. This would make a great gift for a child in your life in the 2 year plus range. Proper supervision to guard against piece eating required, of course.

I got this for my daughter and the puzzles are great, they are challenging but not impossible, they have shapes on the back to group them accordingly to help with clean up, the little box they come in also helps a lot. my daughter has a great time with them

My 3 year old got this puzzle set for Christmas. He loves them. He enjoys putting each picture together. The puzzle pieces are wooden and very study. We have races with him putting the puzzles together. I love that they come with a box to keep them all together and store them in. GREAT buy. I will remember this for friends.

Remember to read all about the product details before purchasing. I was disappointed when these puzzles arrived and are very small as compared to other Melissa & Doug puzzles that are sold separately.

I got this puzzle-in-box set and the Vehicles In a Box set, and my son likes them both. The construction vehicle pictures really delight him. He can work harder puzzles than these, but he enjoys these for those times when he wants less thinking and quick results.
Each of the completed puzzles measures only about 5X7 inches.
If you buy more than one of these boxed sets, here's a heads-up. Each set uses the same four shapes, stamped in red, on the backs of the four puzzles. This makes sorting harder when two sets get mixed together. We added a black mark to the backs of one set to make it different.
Also, the two sets that I bought were cut identically, so that the pieces are interchangeable between puzzle sets. For example, both puzzles stamped with circles on the backs have the same exact shaped pieces.
