ripped off July 12, 2010 tugboat 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I ordered 10 Lego Minifigures for $1.99 each from Toy Trading Company but they charged me $4.99 each for shipping and handling. All figures were packed in the same box with a shipping weight of 6oz. Toy Trading company was completely unhelpfull in explaining why they were charging me more than twice as much as my order for shipping 6oz. of plastic parts. Don't make the same mistake I did. It is ridiculous and I feel ripped off. They have now changed their prices but their shipping policy is still the same. This is a total rip off.
best $2 I've spent in a LONG time June 25, 2010 T. McNamara (Illinois) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm hooked on these little figures and have made countless trips to TRU, LEGO stores and LEGOLAND. I have quite a # of these little guys now for both myself and my son. I can tell you that there are NO RARE figures. LEGO did not make more of one figure over another. With a case consisting of 60 figures and a set consisting of 16 figures your going to have a few less of a few figures. Each case has ATLEAST 3 OF EACH figure (16 x 3 = 54) so don't blame LEGO if you can't find a certain figure. In my hunting I've come across cases that have had certain figures like the zombie, robot and cheerleader missing so you have to blame the collector(s) or Ebay sellers that are creating a artificial market for these which is pretty sad.
Also if your not aware yet YOU CAN TELL WHICH FIGURE IS IN EACH BAG. Each bag has a different UPC code in the upper right corner on the BACk of the bag. Each of the 16 figures has a unique UPC code. Do a search on the net for the UPC code list and match it to each figure. If you order on-line then your truely gambling since you cant find out what figure it is until after you buy it. The cases are packed in a way where all of the same figures are together so where someone ordered some from LEGO and got 4 crash test dummies that was becasue the person at LEGO who filled your order just grabbed 5 figures out of a case. IMO I think LEGO should just sell cases of 60 figures on-line instead of being able to buy 5. I DO NOT THINK LEGO SHOULD SELL A SET OF the 16 figures since that kinda defeats the purpose IMO.
I hope this helps those having problems finding them.
Good idea but poorly handled June 23, 2010 sillygirl (Maryland) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I'm an adult fan of Lego and I was really excited about these mystery Lego figures. In the past I've done the "mystery" bag/pack thing (Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering) so I understood going in that just because you buy 20 packs doesn't mean you are going to get everything you hoped for (seriously, I must have opened 50+ Pokemon card packs in the 90s looking for a Charizard and I never got one). That's kinda the point (and fun) of the "mystery" bags really. But I'm not impressed with the way Lego has handled these items. Why? Because I think:
1. There should have been more made available to the public. If Lego had made more available, there would definitely be less opportunity for toy dealers and scalpers to jack the prices on a silly $2 item. I understand the whole supply/demand thing and wanting to get as much profit as possible, especially from adult collectors willing to spend large amounts of money, but seriously. This is a $2 toy.
2. There should have been a wider variety available of the "rarer" minifigs like the zombie or robot. I'm seriously not impressed with now owning 5 crash test dummies. To tell you the truth, if I weren't so afraid of getting another crash test dummy, I'd totally have spent MORE on these things.
Really, I don't care if a spoiled kid cries every five minutes because mommy and daddy can't get him the Lego minifig robot he's DEMANDING (come on now, these mystery packs are supposed to be FUN), but I DO care that Lego seems to have dropped the ball on this as far as making the fans happy. Yes, they are a corporation looking for profit, but how about for once actually delivering a quality product in appropriate quantities?
Better a Zombie than a Dummy June 11, 2010 Karl Dean (Nyack, NY United States) 20 out of 24 found this review helpful
These Lego minifigures are "hot" right now (June 2010). I purchase Legos for my son (although I've enjoyed them since I was a kid) from the company's website, and bought the maximum 5 figures from them for the MSRP along with a bunch of other stuff. I'd suggest those having difficulty finding these figures do so through Lego, and pay the shipping charge (which will up the price for 5 figures by another 5 bucks).
It's a shame to see online sellers jacking up the price of these things. They're obviously cashing in on the demands of collectors. In the end, of course, it's the kids who get cheated.
Lego is itself complicit in this; this is the first I know of that Lego has offered a collection that you can't simply purchase, but have to purchase in multiples and rely on luck to acquire the entire set. Of the 5 figures I purchased, my kid has opened 3. The first two were the crash-test dummy, and the third, the zombie. I get the feeling there are a lot more dummies out there than zombies.
Zombies like me may fall for the allure of otherwise-worthless pieces of plastic, but only dummies will pay outrageous amounts of money for them.
UPDATE: Okay, my kid opened the other two. Guess what? They were both crash-test dummies. Someone please calculate the odds of getting 4 of the same figure in 5 tries from a group of 16, if all are produced in equal number. Lego is about to get a scathing email from me--my kid's fun at opening Lego toys has been turned to tearful disappointment. Lego is in danger of losing a long-time fan (and hundreds of dollars of business).
ANOTHER UPDATE: I fired off my email to Lego (I made sure I did it while I was still good and ticked), gave them all the particulars, and said I was furious. I got back a form-letter type response, but then also a personal email that said Lego was sorry this happened, and they'd send me three minifigures as a goodwill gesture. Of the three, only one was a crash-test dummy this time. Sigh... We now have eight minifigures, five of which are crash-test dummies. I still think Lego is great generally, but the blind-packaging, well, sucks.
When I take my kid to a carnival, I don't let him play the games of chance. I explain the setup, and the odds of winning a prize vs. the odds of being disappointed and losing your money. I tell him that, if we want toys, we'll go to the toy store and buy them. Blind-packaging schemes like Lego is pulling with these minifigures reduces a fun part of childhood to a tawdry game of chance. If I want a tawdry game of chance, Lego, I'll go to a carnival. As I said, I may be a zombie, but I'm not a dummy. Or a sucker.
Great Idea June 7, 2010 Carmen Sandiego (Dont Know) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have not been so excite by any other Lego product in years. This collection of minifigures are great. These have a lot of new elements that were created specific for this set. I love the robot in the series. The price is great too $1.99 MSRP.
